Chromium is the open source browser behind Chrome. Think of it as the Chrome nightly builds.

Great! Now all I have to figure out is what the hell is Chromium?

This tool is a piece of gem for hardcore testers/users: it retrieves the LAST version of Cromium... and by *last* one should understand the last build version, night build, alpha, beta, RC, whatever available. If you have question regarding or what to expect from a *night build*, then the section is not for you, check instead. Deserves to be integrated in Cromium I think, nevertheless it needs to get rid of the .NET for that ;) @LakotaElf (you may wonder how I was able to respond you on a previous message): the Google Chrome and Cromium are different distributions. Altough the engine and iinstallation may be the same, I recomend to not try to update Google Chrome using this Cromium releases (although may also work ;) ) Another thing that needs to be kept in mind - it happen to me at least - is that the nightly build installers don't work all the time: they simply don't update the software. The updater records the last downloaded version no matter if is installed or not. Check author note below, and the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Chromium\InstallerResultUIString string, although it not very helpfully Me personally: I'm going for the "archive" and deploy manually the content in C:\Documents and Settings\your login name\Local Settings\Application Data\Chromium\Application\ Hope it helps ;)

The LocalVersion number is tracked by my application meaning it will track after the first downloads. I looked around trying to find a build number where I can check it but I couldn't find one yet. Maybe in the next version.

Gave me an error on update... Nightly debug builds should never be published like this... They are full of bugs and slow cause of the debug code...

OK I downloaded this and all went well with install. I understand about nightly builds etc., but I have a question, I use Chrome v. 2 and when I execute this program, it does not give a build number of what is already installed. Now does this only work after a recent download or install as all it shows for build on computer is 0. Or am I overlooking something? Otherwise I think this is a handy piece of software. Cannot say anything bad about it presently...

Works good, same as previous version. However, the previus interface was better somehow: everything was in only one place and I had also the link for the release notes :( It will look a lot better if all the settings, including the download progress will be in the main window.

I will let the remote version number become click able taking you to the release notes. I forgot to add that into this release. The reason for the interface change was to make it better for tray interactions.

The old version was great, but this new version is placed on a #¤#¤ server, so you cannot download it.. 10 minutes with "you are downloading files to quick, and I give up" .. The screen already appered first time, thought i had never click the link before..

I'm sorry that your having trouble but in all my tests I had none of those bugs. I will look into it. The hidden window you are talking about is not hidden it's a simple .Net call to MessageBox.Show() and the link to changelog is still there just click the version number. It's no longer underlined. I may readd that.

Onfurtunately this program is getting worse by the minute, despite working great in the past.. This new version has some very ugly bugs, that makes it useless :/ * When having downloaded newest build, I was only able to do new smart feature in win7 to see, that there was a windows asking if I wanted to close open Chrome windows .. Otherwise it was hidded.. * After having installed, a window in sys-tray appeared, and like updates every 1/10 second, so it's hopeless to read what it says and hopeless to close it.. Very odd, that one would allow such bugs to be commited.. And still no nice link to changelog like in the past build (that worked)

This program works well for downloading the latest Chromium build. However, I still have a problem with the status balloon flickering when it appears in Windows Vista and Windows 7.

No longer shows the local version under Win 7 even when run as admin, so now longer version checks. Only useful for downloading now, which is a shame. UPDATE - After trying another updater, it appears that the chromium builds no longer have version information that these updaters can use. Rating changed from 2* to 5*.

This product that is installed in a zip file and can be kept as a desktop shortcut or in a documents folder. This gives accurate updates. You don't need to update a web browser every 5 minutes. I have recently updated my last years version of chromium with this years, which is not yet acailable for download here on this site. but on another site I found several updated versions of chromium for 2010. In fact chromium updates almost every day and the site I got my latest version of chromium from,it also had the option of downloading the browser normally with easy installer. That is I could download a normal file(which I did) and did not have to download as a zipped file like I had to before. And because I chose not to install as a zipped file this time, this means i can uninstall (which I don't want to do) or repair the browser.Chromium does update every few hours,as it is open source so they are constantly working on it. But YOU DO NOT NEED to update your browser every day,one you have chosen your latest version, there are not any problems. So you don't need an updater and if you keep changing every day, some new brands are unstable. i now have a new and stable version of Chromium that with this version I can now set as my default browser, unlike last years version, where i could not. My advice is don't bother to get the updater as you don't need to update Chromium every day if you have just installed the a recent 2010 version. All we need now is to wait for this site,C.net to publish the latest download of Chromium,so everyone can sample this years new improved browser, that works even better. Updated on Jul 16, 2010
