Skype is the next phenomenon from the people who brought you KaZaA. Just like KaZaA, this uses P2P (peer-to-peer) technology to connect you to other users – not to share files this time, but to talk for free with your friends. The technology is extremely advanced - but super simple to use. You’ll be making perfect quality free phone calls to your friends in no time.

Fairly good sound and video Too many additions. They should learn when to leave a good product alone.

Good communication Have not had any cons since I started using it years ago I would be out of touch if I did not have it. ;)

It's a wonderful program. I use it frequently with my kids who are in another state. The grandkids are really cute when they use it! Been using it for a few years now.....no complaints. It does what it says it will do. Love that it helps me stay connected to my family,

NONE - couldn't use (see Cons.) Tried Skype a long time ago. Bad echo!! Don't know why - asked for Help - never got any. Never tried since - no need now. ECHO - ECHO - ECHO (will I say that again???)

Allows me to keep in touch with my family and make business calls all across North America from my computer while traveling on business for a ridiculously low annual rate, love it. For me, none. Highly recommend.

Any alternatives now that Microsoft purchased this from eBay? Pretty soon we'll be forced to get Live ID to logon.

New version does not install on Windows 2000. Portable version does not run either, so remove Windows 2000 from compatibility list folks. Just for the curious, I down-graded my P3 laptop that I use in cable rooms to Windows 2000 running on a solid-state flash drive. Windows 2000 light and stable for testing. Running on a solid state drive means I can carry the laptop around in environments that I would not normally subject a laptop to. I use a SATA drive in the multi-bay when I need a modern OS. I believe an old P3 is much more versatile than a netbook with a 10-inch screen and no drive bays. i downloaded the last version of Skype 4.2 and it installs and runs fine in 2K. You can get old versions here: http://www.oldapps.com/skype.php. And yes, Skype for Windows is bloated. Why would anyone want a new version for Linux when you see what has happened to the Windows versions?

Why use this "spyware" ? Microsoft can listen to all calls, so why use ?

Why would anyone want a new Linux version? Because video support stinks, the UI is a retroactive abortion, etc. The best version available right now is the iPad version (yes, I did say the iPad version - I use it daily).
