Paint.NET is image and photo manipulation software designed to be used on computers that run Windows. It supports layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools. It started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it. Originally intended as a free replacement for the MS Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple tool for photo and image editing. The programming language used to create Paint.NET is C#, with a small amount of C++ for installation and shell-integration related functionality.Paint.NET is freeware, but the team is accepting donations here.

Adjustment, Effect, & Tools really make this program! Effects Load Error Window is very useful. Could use an Effects Error correcting tool! It is about the ONLY Graphical Editor I will use. It exceeds all my needs!

I have used this program in many incarnations for several years, and it's ease of use is really good. I go to this one if I don't want or need the heavier attributes of photoshop. none for what it is. It is not supposed to be photoshop or even photoshop elements. Well worth the download and lots of add-ons on their site, some of which are really worthwhile, i.e., the cartoon filter which I have used, saved the image and then loaded it into photoshop for additional edits.

simple to use and user friendly I cannot fault the programme. It is all that it claims to be I have Paint Shop Pro and another that my Camera thrust upon me, but for 90% of what I do, Paint NET does the job. It is a great little programme! Best of all, it doesn't try to load me with other programmes that I do not want anyway!

I absolutely love this program. I am a professional photographer and use Paint.net for editing on 95% of the shots that I take now. Sure, there are things that this program can't do and that you need a program like Photoshop for, but those are things that most people are likely to need to do only once in a great while (and maybe never). Since this program came out, I have (almost) stopped using Photoshop all together. This program is so much smaller, lighter, faster, less boated and easier to use than a huge editing applications like Photoshop, that unless there is a specific reason to have to do so, Paint.net is just a far better tool to use for nearly all of your editing needs, at just about every level. Well done!

This program offers many useful tools for creating original art and manipulating images. We use this program on top of all the Adobe creative suite software, and it is a flexible pocketknife of usefulness when dealing with art and images. Nothing comes to mind. This software should be found on every single computer and it has earned and deserves a space in every home. Paint.Net is a must have without doubt.

FreeGood number of editing optionsfair amount of updatesEasy to understand interface Still doesn't stack up to photoshopNo maskingonly contains basic editing tools If you don't have photoshop in your home then I would definitely recommend this program to use. Paint is a very poor editing program and this improves upon it by a HUGE margin. With that being said it misses a lot of the options I love about photoshop such as easy masking and a better wand tool.Overall, if you need a photo editing program and all you need are the essential editing tools and none of the fancy stuff then I recommend you getting this.

If you haven't money for PS this program is a good choice Interface is primitive and old-school . It looks like Photoshop 1 or 2.

i've not used Photoshop, but I haven't run into anything that this can't do. Remove those objectional people from your old photos, splice cat heads onto dogs, etc. Nowhere near the support of PS; either ad hoc, or the massive literature avail/able for PS. An iMac user will have to have a Windows application (like Parallels Desktop) to run it. Some tools a bit slower and clunkier. Unless you're printing gigantic files for Nat'l Geog, this'll do anything you need it to do.

It adjusts reds better than a few other programs, but that's about the only thing. Not optimal for someone trying to get many pictures processed quickly. More geared for artsy purposes. Not very organized and not very user-friendly. Not set up in an organized manner, which might be fine for someone just dealing with one photo or two. However, if you need to process tons of photos quickly in an almost assembly line manner (like getting pics ready for a whole bunch of ebay listings), this program is a pain and not very optimal. I much prefer using Picnic online, which is soooo much faster and has the options set up perfectly for getting the job done quickly and in logical order: rotate, crop, resize, exposure, color, save (with automatic JPG conversion, if that's what you want) and the options of uploading directly to PhotoBucket, etc., in addition to saving to your computer. While Picnic may be my preference, there are still several other programs that are also more user-friendly, useful, and organized than Paint.NET, too; such as Image Analyzer or Fly Free.

Good versatility.Expand usability with plug-ins.Better than Photoshop for single pixel manipulations and tuning. Limited text capability.Limited capacity with graphic filters. This program should be the one included with windows instead of the basic paint program included. Its more versatile and usable that the basic one. Not as good as a high end program like Photoshop but it has its uses. I use both for most of my graphics work combining the advantages of both.
