Amarok 2.3.2

Amarok is a powerful music player with an intuitive interface. It makes playing the music you love and discovering new music easier than ever before - and it looks good doing it.

Probably the single best music player out there when it works properly. It'd be nice to get an actual Windows version out instead of having to download and install an out-of-date version of KDE, which is currently the only way to get Amarok for Windows.

Nothing beats Amarok on Linux. But if Songbird gets better it could be an alternative for me, because it is way more extensible than Amarok. But Amarok is still the best player. 5 full stars. Thank you developers, thanks for the free work.

The windows version appears to only be a front end for the VLC engine and codecs; so just use VLC until there is a real windows port.

There is indeed a Windows version now that you can supposedly actually use, but the installation instructions were so HORRENDOUS that I wasn't able to get it working. The Windows KDE installer still needs a whole lot of work, as do the instructions on the Amarok site for installing the software itself. They're pretty damned embarrassing as they exist currently. It's not so much a "front end" for VLC, it just uses VLC as its decoding engine. Theoretically, the interface for the Windows and Linux versions should be almost identical since it's running on KDE either way. I just think it's kind of silly to knock it for having VLC as a dependency. It's fantastic that they're obviously putting some effort into the Windows version (which they had made NO effort on previously), but the project just isn't quite there, yet. It needs some time unless you're already experienced with KDE under Windows. For now, I suggest sticking to the Linux version, which I still think is the best music playback software available for any OS.
