PSPad is a universal freeware editor. There is no complex install process; the program is ready to work immediately, without requiring customization. It supports many file types and languages, with syntax highlighting. There are macros, clip files and templates to automate repetitive activities. An integrated HEX Editor, Project support, FTP Client, Macro Recorder, File Search/Replace, Code Explorer, code page conversion, are just some of the many possibilities that PSPad can offer you.

Version 4.5.2 works OK, but version 4.53 is even better. Lots of things has been added.

"Great program" It's FREE and does what it says it does. What more can be said.

"Not user friendly" PSPad tries to access the internet every time I (& many others) launch(ed) PSPad. The developer & team have no interest in addressing this issue & in fact told me to use some other program. I now use Notepad++

"Use this editor the most" syntax highlighting for many languages short cut entry for most languages syntax checking for many languages convenient and powerful so many features that it takes some time to learn - but worth it

The Explorer context menu does not work on x64bit systems. This is a known issue and was discussed in the forum *a year ago*. Why do we NOT have a 64bit handler to fix this yet? THree stars.

i like this software, but it bothers me that it has been beta all the time!
Rated 50/50 by PSPad at Sep 6, 2008
Somebody can name it as beta, somebody as small builds between full releases.

As far as I am concerned, I don't care if it's called alpha, beta or blob. PSPad works well, and I've never had any major issues with the many builds I've used. Compared to commercial editors such as UltraEdit and TextPad, PSPad has nothing to be ashamed about (in fact TextPad doesn't even come close), and it's free. I tried notepad++ for a short while, but returned to PSPad rather swiftly, and it looks like it will remain my de-facto editor of choice for some time. Very well done Jan, keep up the excellent work.

Simply the best full blown text editor.

This release finally weaned me off of CONText editor (I jumped off the bloated UltraEdit bandwagon years ago). The final addresses all my issues including 64bit integration and I'm very satisfied. FIVE stars for excellence.

"Great product" Does a great job. None that I am aware of. I recommend this software.

Absolutely fantastic text editor. The only dealbreaker to using this (if you care) is the fact that you are forced to use fixed-width fonts as its geared towards coding. Frankly, even when I'm writing PHP I prefer using Verdana 9, but whatever. Still gets 5 stars for its capabilities and for being free.

Most of the features of expensive IDE's and editors, and some they don't have -- and it's free! Last year I tried so many editors I lost count, installing every free oneand trials for many many others, and PS Pad won. I wish the sidebar for file, project, code explorer, ftp, etc., was collapsible. For something that's free, I can't believe it does what it does and that more people don't know about it. It's not as fancy an interface design as something like Dreamweaver et al, but it is still clear, it's there and easy to find, and there's little that it can't do in terms of most basic to intermediate and even advanced features that you need 98% of the time. I use this for html, CSS, php, javascript, XML, CSV and My SQL, and so on. It is loaded with advanced features including a fast and easy to find and use ftp connection. Create and save projects, save favs, over 20+ syntax highlighters plus more you can install, excellent CSS & html synatx & highlighting & editing, word wrapping on and off, multiple character encoding options, an awesome code explorer tree sidebar to find functions, includes, variables, globals, etc..--this feature alone is as good or better than that in most expensive editors and dev environments. I could go on about the features. I've tried so many products int he past year, and I settled on using this most of the time and Notepad++ for other things. I even am a proud owner of Zend Studio, and I still find that I use PS Pad most of the time for routine tasks.

There is only one problem I have with the current 4.5.5 release. For some reason, in my dual-monitor setup, it will not load onto the secondary monitor. Never had the problem with 4.5.4 and I am hoping it's just a temporary proble. Otherwise, it is by far the best "notepad" replacement out there.

"Would be excellent except for word-wrap bug" Good interface, easy to use, syntax highlighting for most languages, good ftp support. Word-wrap bug often causes the program to crash when pasting a large string (e.g. large url) into a document, making it unsuitable for writing web pages.

"great notpad replacement" recognizes code, great find and replace feature - also lists each ocurance in a separate portion of the program below the text, stars tabs when need to save no auto save - have to manual save like other programs, too many menus by default (but can change this option) good program
