as a download manager/resumer, DTA is great. unfortunately it has the nasty little habit of increasing the maximum number of connections, persistent connections, and persistent connections per server. these values (which can only be reverted manually via about:config) are increased so aggressively that normal browsing is noticeably impacted...i am on a 9mbps connection and experience significant bottlenecking when loading from 3 or more tabs. if this addon could increase these connections only when downloading, and then reset them to their previous values when its downloads are finished, i would give it a 5.

Nice download manager, would be better if could import list of links like orbit or FDM.

It's a nice extension, and it makes download selection much easier, but it's ridiculous to call this a "download manager". I say this because of obvious deficiencies, such as there being no way to add alternate servers for a given download. And when a download encounters an error--whether it's a server error, a timeout, a local problem, or anything else--it's too bad for you, because DTA won't retry the download. It just happily gives up. Anyone who calls this a "download manager" has ridiculously low standards.

None that I can think of, apart from the fact that it is free, but frustrating. I do not understand how to use it. It seems unnecessarily complicated and is anything but 'intuitive'. DAP, on the other hand, is easy to use and gets my vote. This program requires the user to provide the download site's URL, the type of file that is being downloaded from a list of mysterious descriptors, where it is being downloaded to, and so on and I find it just too difficult to understand. I have tried this program before and, as the help information is so unhelpful unless you already understand the program and therefore would not require the type of help I needed, I wrote to the creators but did not receive a reply. I appreciate that they are developing this software in their free time and would gladly have made a donation if they had replied and explained how to use DTA. Not everyone is a computer geek. To add insult to injury, when I downloaded it again recently thinking that I should be able to work out how to use it myself, my latest version of Firefox (3.03) advised me it was incompatible and could not be used with it. And it's supposed to be a Firefox add-on?. I've settled on DAP and it is a breeze to use and their help team are polite, quick to respond and actually very helpful - even with the free version.. I've trashed DTA and won't bother with it again.

Everything. Its speeds up all downloads, you do more than one download at once, and you can pause downloads. Nothing at all. If you're a Firefox user, this is a must have add-on.

"Both strong and weak" Good Solid program Would rate 5 stars if resume would start at a later time where it left off much like MS update does

The auto retries setting is on the MAIN page of the options menu. You can set the retry frequency and limit. But yeah, I'm really not sure why they disabled retries by default. It's a very good download manager, but it does not have some of the advanced features of standalone managers like FDM and Orbit. I don't think it was ever intended to entirely supplant software like that even if they share basic functionality. Personally, DTA has all of the features I need, and the browser integration just makes things simpler for the way I do them. The "grab all media on page" feature works better than the competition, and is a natural fit. Excellent stuff.

The retry feature was added AFTER the previous reviewer noted its absence.

"works as advertised" faster downloads still figuring out how to use it to download full movies off websites it works as it's described and I swear by it. it makes large files download a bit quicker than if you didn't use it. even on high speed it's still a must.

"Firefox prevented the installation because it is not compatible with FireFox 3.6.8."

Very fast download of very small sized files. Gives "invalid file location" codes less than halfway through downloading files sized + 300MB. Video downloads can be iffy as well. Good luck getting an intelligent answer from their bug reports page. All I got was "Nothing we can do about it" It's an often-recommended but worthless piece of fluff. Needs a lot of work. A lot.
