QuickTime Alternative 3.1.1

QuickTime Alternative will allow you to play QuickTime files without having to install the official QuickTime Player. All QuickTime formats (.mov .qt .3gp etc.) are supported, including streaming content and QuickTime content that is embedded in webpages. Some advantages compared to QuickTime player are the quick and easy install, make an unattended installation, no background processes, use a player of your own choice, low on resources, and smaller size. Based on Quicktime 7.

I like QT Lite :-) Btw, QT Lite + Firefox 4 = no "MOV download tool" anymore? :-(

It's alive! If QuickTime LITE were not, or no longer, I would simply not read dedicated formats any more. Installing QuickTime Full? No way.

Is this no longer being maintained? Just checked the publisher's homepage and don't even see this listed anymore.

Apparently the maintainer of QT Lite has been gagged (C&D?). Further development of this (and QTA) remains in limbo...? Understand that QT should be avoided whenever possible but sometimes it's needed. Hopefully development will continue, presumably somewhere outside the US. Is there somehow we can show support to the maintainer...??? P.S. I'm giving this 5 stars not because QT is great software, but that QT Lite has allowed us to avoid some of the bloat of QT. Priceless. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QuickTime_Alternative http://en.wikipedia.org/...k:QuickTime_Alternative

In the words of the packager/distributor of QT Lite (the CodecGuide.com guy), "QuickTime (in any form) is a buggy piece of s--t that should be avoided like the plague." This rating is for QuickTime, not for him. As the popular saying goes, you can't polish a turd.

This is a solid program that takes up little space and doesn't include extraneous programs like Apple's ridiculous bundles. As I was de-bloating the iTunes software bundle, I tried to see if iTunes would recognize QTA as a valid substitute since iTunes requires QuickTime to run. Sadly, it did not. This makes me more annoyed with Apple than anything, however.
