SmartClose is a free program that will automate the process of closing all running programs. It can also save the state of the system to a system snapshot, so all the programs that have been closed can be easily restarted later by SmartClose.

Can't judge. Did not work for me in Vista. Claims to support Vista. It didn't for me. If you are running Vista, read below and read previous Vista reviewers. Well, I was warned. Plenty of Vista heads reviewed this and told me it would not work. But, being smarter than all those before me put together, I decided to give it a try. WRONG! My first clue came when my cursor disappeared. Then my screen began to began to flash messages. No idea what they said, they flashed off as quickly as they flashed on. When all was said and done, I had to power down and back up. Had to reset a few options (i.e. Object Dock, Ram Idle, etc.) No major harm. I'm running Vista Home Premium. Came w/new computer. Many nice things, many not so nice. Not really impressed. If i still had my old disc, I think I might upgrade back to XP.

It's supposed to allow me to close running processes. SmartClose shows up on the Taskbar, but won't launch in a window. I've redownloaded from other sites, same problem. I have Windows XP Media Center, don't know what the problem is. SmartClose doesn't launch, and I can't find any help for my issue. Only the SmartClose-Settings will launch from the Start Menu, nothing else.

Does what it says it does. You need to have common computer sense to use.

"not much 'smarter' than version 1.2" if you close down all open programs on your task bar, it will kill the other processes you can't see the more you leave open -- the whole point of using this software -- the harder time it has until it fails totally this program must be allergic to the programs i typically use because when they are open, smart close just hangs up my pc entirely....

It's the perfect tool for shutting down all unneeded services, processes and programs while I'm burning movies to disk and when I'm doing full Docs and Settings backups. My projects are much more reliable without all that background noise going on. None. (the form says I must enter at least 10 characters, hence this parenthetical) The free program does everything I need.
