I had serious problems with various types of malware. I tried all sorts of free and paid anti-virus applications without success. I then installed Avira and haven't had a single problem with malware since. It stops them without affecting my browsing. There is hardly any really. the only issue I sometimes have when I try to install a new app. It blocks it but doesn't give me an option to override it. I usually disable it (easy to do) and enable it again after I have installed it. Best anti-virus ever for me. I wouldn't change it for any other one at the moment. I found it exremley useful with persistant malware that kept popping up when I was browsing the internet. Most other anti-virus applications blocked them but giving me a blank internet page! I had to refresh each time to get to the page I wanted to go. This was very frustrating for me and my family who are regular internet users. Avira worked from start, blocking any adware/malware without us even noticing any change in browsing. After a while I was confident enough to swaitch alerts off and let it run its course. Well done Avira.

None that I can tell Totally overrated...Avira never seemed to do anything, including being anything but a very disappointing and weak antivirus vehicle. Like many of the free programs, it does little of what it claims to do, and I'm sure the free version is crippled. I've already uninstalled it and am using more effective programs. Antivirus simply does not to much of what it claims to do, except for its constant interruptions and interference, once installed.

This is the best free antivirus. It's very effective, fast & light on computer. It has nag screen. Users have to set update schedule in the "Scheduler" option for auto update function. I like Avira AntiVir Personal very much. This is the best free antivirus. It's very effective, fast & light on computer. The company should remove its nag screen. After its installation the only thing we all have to do is just set the daily update schedule, in the "Scheduler" option for auto update function. It gives strong protection & works like an umbrella. So there is no need to spend money for basic protection.

Dependable team behind it. A few of my friends who are real techies recommend it.Been using it during my last three computers, a span of 5 years. Logically designed option icons in the user area. Pop-up screen on the freeware version ,when it needs to update. Recommended for most purposes.

It has a simple interface which I like a lot, it has good detection rates, its light on the memory and for being free it does what its supposed to do. the detection rates became a bit lower compared to the other version years ago. I really recommend this software to people. Its really a great software for me. after all its all about personal preference and this one is the one I prefer compared to the other free AVs out there. and im not bothered at all by the ad it pop's up. its free!! its just their way to advertise their premium or paid version.

Light software,Simple interface, fast scanner & good Virus detection rate No email scanner & lack of documentation & little extra protection needed for home & advanced users After using avast & avg for years , i was dissapointed the way it worked ,especially both anti viruses freeze my pc ,but after using avira my system is responding faster than it should be ............... .....THANKS AVIRA...!!!

freeautomatic updates Doesn't heal, just deletes infected filesA lot of false positives Heuristics is not as good as it was before. I'm still using it just because Avira does not conflict with the system. And its already a habit.

I am unaware of any pros. I am easily made skittish with this type of program. This one left me feeling as such - big time. I did not leave it on the machine 10 minutes, before removing it. Something about the way this product operated left me very nervous and, as a result, I dumped it. I am not in the software reviewing industry, so I took no notes regarding its performance.

Downloaded fine, with no interference to windows 7 professional. It does not interfere with defender either. working pretty well and for free it is rated number 3. Pop ups from avira sometimes are annoying. I will recommend to anyone. I had avast which worked very well and am now trying avira on both windows xp, and 7 Updated on May 29, 2011

It SPAMs with ASK toolbar ! What a disappointment !

Rated 10/50 by OverBurn65 at Jul 2, 2011

The best free anti virus software around has now sold out to the dark side. It now comes bundled with the ask.com toolbar, with a very problematic way of not installing. Avira (anti virus and anti adware\spyware program) installing just that an adware toolbar? Really? Who thought that was a good idea? Whom ever OKed this horrible decision should All be fired. Please write, boycott or another way and tell them how awful this decision was.

Used to rock. Now it sucks. Oh bother.

Used to love AntiVir for its low resource requirement but recent version including this is growing bloated, needing more memory than before. Have switched to AVAST that is the lowest in memory usage but will keep an eye on AntiVir, hopefully Avira can improve it to match AVAST in the future.

I wonder what they added in this version, the package is 5MB bigger...
