OperaTor is a portable software bundle which allows you to browse the web anonymously. It combines the power of the Opera Browser, Tor and Privoxy. With OperaTor no data will be stored at the computer you plugged your portable memory into.

"Nice little package that works as adertised" This package works just as described. It allows you to surf anonymously without giving up too much in speed or functionality. It does not need to be installed so you can even run it off a USB drive! What more can you ask for?

"Very effective." Does a great job of masking your online identity. Does ALL the tedious work of setting up a proxy for you. You simply download the browser. that's it. Can be a little slow at times but nothing that you can't live with for the service it provides FREE of charge.

"A great tool that's as effective as it is slow." OperaTOR is a fantastic package. It makes it nearly impossible for anyone to track your browsing history or pinpoint your true ip address. If you need anonymity when navigating certain sites for whatever reason, this will give it to you big time. patience required. see below It can be infuriatingly slow at times. Very Very slow. But not all the time and for the degree of anonymity it provides (high) at no cost I can certainly live with it.

Version 3.0 of OperaTor is an integrated software bundle using Opera 9.50 build 10063 (as the browser component) with Tor 0.1.2.19 (as the anonymizing component). It also now uses Polipo (as the proxy component) - not Privoxy as past versions did (and as this site and even the OperaTor site still claim). Launching OperaTor starts Opera, Tor, and Polipo - so you just click and go. It's also fully portable (so there's no installer and it leaves no tracks on a host system if used from a USB drive) and you can disable the Tor stuff via a button on the browser interface (like TorButton for FireFox). By default the Opera configuration is secured, with things like Java and JavaScript disabled, but any such secure settings can be changed if you want. There are also some Opera interface changes done via a custom skin. I don't mind most, but the button selection change isn't that great (check marks look better than just partly filling in boxes with a faded color). The only problem here is that the normal default Opera skin isn't included (why?), so you'll have to go get it if you want it (I did). I'm surprised by the 2.4 rating present as I type this review. At this same time Opera is rated 4.3 and Tor is rated 4.2 and this is really just a combination of those. Certainly if you like Opera you should like this. Sure browsing with Tor is slow, but that's something you must accept with any Tor-based solution (or any other free anonymous browsing solution I know of). Supposedly switching from Privoxy to Polipo helps with performance though (but I'm not sure if that's true in real-world use or not). Maybe past low ratings came from people who used pre-3.0 releases which [based on the developer's site and forum] had problems. If so, you should really check out 3.0 now. It works great. My only wish would be for the developer to also maintain a beta build using the Tor 0.2.x "unstable" code and latest version of Polipo. Perhaps you can just upgrade the exe

My favorite portable Tor-based solution. Heck, I even use this over other similar solutions when I don't care about the portability. The new icon, though obviously not affecting anything beyond appearance, is actually a big improvement over the previous one (which quite frankly wasn't very good and didn't seem to relate at all to what the program is). Of course, the major change in version 3.1 is the update to Opera 9.51 build 10081 - and that includes all the changes referenced here: http://www.opera.com/docs/changelogs/windows/951/ Still a 4 instead of a 5 for the same reasons as in my previous review though. ;-)

This is excellent. Very convenient AND portable. Just unpack the zip, run OperaTor and you're off. None of the messy configuration that can accompany setting up Tor. It's a keeper.
